The Formula
To the drawing board!
Nobody in a position that requires any type of planning or design should be without access to a large whiteboard. I am fortunate enough to have an 8-foot one right in my office which brings incredible levels of awesomeness to my day.

The cool thing about the whiteboard is that, unlike other ways of recording thoughts (paper, computer file), the ideas on it are big and in my face. Even more importantly, I have to consciously erase them - as opposed to closing a computer file or flipping the sheet on a pad - which I don't take lightly once I have the proper balance of color and patterns up. Achieving this balance takes time, and no serious whiteboarder destroys their colorful work without careful thought. For me, the only prerequisite to erasure is that I have completed the work necessary to the point where there is no longer a need to preserve what is there.
